Senior Spotlight

Nic Sterne and Taz O'briant, Camera man

The Nest staffers talked to the cross country team about which senior to feature and they chose Jerry Jiminez. Jerry started cross country his freshman year here at UCA. Before running cross country, he played soccer and wrestled. His best time for the 5k was 20min 30sec. At the beginning of the season, Jerry was one of the top runners on the team, but due to some medical problems, he has not been running as well. That does not stop him from being a great role model. We asked Jerry what he’s going to miss most about cross country he said “Friendship, memories, and the feeling of winning.” We also asked him coming into your senior year, what did you do to prepare for a successful season and what were your expectations for the team this year? He told us, “To get in shape more, run more, and hope we can do better than last year”

Mr.Fortune, the Men’s Cross Country Coach commented on who Jerry has been for their team these last four years. “Jerry is a Uwharrie Cross Country program legend. The only runner in school history to make it to regionals all four years of being on the team. He was our first All-Conference Runner in the Yadkin Valley Conference. He is a natural leader and just an all-around great person. He has really helped take this program from last in the region to 2nd in the conference. His presence on this team will be missed greatly.
