Senior Spotlight

The Nest staffers decided to write a senior spotlight on Mia Leonard, the only senior on the Women’s basketball team. Mia started playing basketball when she was only six years old, She also played softball freshman and sophomore year but junior year she decided to abandon softball and Hone in and focus on basketball. According to Mia the hardest part of basketball is having to keep on running and pushing herself even when she’s tired. She has a UCA record for most 3 pointers scored in a game scoring 8 3 pointers against East Montgomery last year.

She plays point guard and guard positions, and she also hopes to one day move to college basketball and continue to grow her skills. Her favorite part about basketball is being able to be aggressive and score points for her team. Being a senior plays a big role in how she carries herself around her peers and teammates. Being the only senior on the team makes her a big role model and a leader for the team and it can be stressful at times but that doesn’t stop her from pushing through. When we interviewed her she said “I am going to miss my girls and playing for UCA”

Mia is an outstanding competitor and a feisty basketball player. Her spirit is contagious and she leads by example both on and off the court. Mia has worked hard to improve her individual skills and develop our team chemistry. She has been a key factor in establishing a tradition of success and a culture of excellence within the women’s basketball program. With her leadership, we have lofty goals for the upcoming season and expect our program to continue building on the foundation she has helped establish.
