Senior Spotlight – Holden Simmons

Halie Hulin

This week’s senior spotlight goes to a hardworking and focused individual. Holden Simmons has been wrestling since his freshman year. Holden says he’ll miss his team and friendships the most when he continues his academic career at Campbell University. Holden’s wrestling season has been rough due to a knee injury that occurred at the beginning of the season, but he says the rest of the team is doing great.

Coach Waddell describes Holden as a person with a great work ethic and intensity on the mat. To prepare Holden for his senior year, the coach had many practices with him and sent him to wrestling camp. One piece of advice Coach Waddell wants to leave with Holden is, “There will always be adversity in life, and no matter how bad your situation may seem to you the sun will rise tomorrow.”

We also spoke with Jacob Newton, a close friend of Holden’s about his favorite memory with Holden. Jacob says his favorite memory is hanging out with Holden at his house after a lake day. Jacob describes Holden as very funny. He says Holden always knows how to make everything fun.
